Lighting in Mt. Vernon

The lighting of the monument was an awesome production. The mayor elect and his kids gave an 'eloquent' opening then they continued with the countdown. I happened to be standing in front of the speakers as his son yelled the numbers into the microphone. Here's the one picture I took since my battery was dying right when I arrived, but it turned out pretty nice.

The inlaws were in town this past weekend; we went to see the lights every night. It's quite an amazing sight!

Turkey Day

Here's a Holiday greeting my father-in-law was passing around, just thought I would share. Hope everyone had a Happy Turkey Day!

Scottsdale, AZ

I joined my hubby on his business trip to Arizona this week. I wish we got to get around more (ie. Grand Canyon), but mostly I went because he said we could get free golf. I never thought desert land would have such great golf. Now I know why everyone raves about how wonderful it is to play out there.

Collection

I used to collect everything back in the day, from mylar ballons, to banks, even dolls, but the easiest collection to transport back to Batimore was my pen collection. Here is one of them, but I'll bring them all into class next week. Happy Holidays!

Process

Don't forget about the Kitties and Doggies this year. This is the process on how do make a home made present for the ani-muls. Mmmmmm, they're going to be so happy!

'Do not let a woman EVER, ever, make you who you are.'

I think it's great to be able to laugh at the ignorance around the world, Sasha Baron Cohen's sense of humor not only makes you laugh hysterically, but his humor brings new light to many touchy subjects that people often choose to ignore (as if they don't still exist).

Categorization Lancome

Lancome promotes that everyone should have Soleil Ultra Sun Care in their bag while highlighting other products they sell throughout categories.

It takes a little while to arrive at the main idea of the ad, but overall good use of categories to highlight many products at one time.

Face Categorization using SIFT

We view face recognition problem as object class recognition problem. Different pople are considered different object categories. In this project, the SIFT features are integrated into a bag-of-words representation of face images. This method achieves some preliminary promising results, which can be used as the first step for face recognition problem, and be further improved by considering spatial relations between features.face

Cause & Effect

Pressure is not a great feeling and using it here to evoke a persons self-will to push back and say no to drugs is a great campaign idea.

In addition abovetheinfluence.com has a great interactive site to continue with their message.

Artscape's Alphabet

Artscape's visual arts coordinator Gary Kachadourian approached occasional Baltimore City Paper contributors Nolen Strals and Bruce Willen about adding a typographical exhibit to 2005’s citywide lineup, both designers pounced on the opportunity. They put out an open call for designers to create their own original alphabets. The resultant show compiles 60 alphabets by 47 artists, handpicked from an international pool of more than 150 submissions.

Here they intentionally displayed each letter together (rather then by submission), to show differences in typographical elements from one letter to the next.

This is a page from the As.

Before&After

Before&After magazine has been sharing its practical approach to graphic design since 1990. Because our modern world has made designers of us all (ready or not). Before & After is dedicated to making graphic design understandable, useful and even fun for everyone.

This is their credo, and I believe they have some great free downloads for learning some basic design techniques.

Picture Worth 1000 Words

We made ESPN for something, I'll let this one speak for itself.

Images for Compare/Contrast

I was looking through pictures for my compare/contrast spread and I came across this one. Not the best for my layout, but I jumped off this cliff. It was pretty insane!

I was thinking about using one of these pictures as a watermark or a spread any preferences?

Cabo Fish-i-es

There's been some talk about it being the big wedding season, and I just wanted to share a honeymoon picture and story. I just got married last October 14th, and it's almost our year anniversary. We went to Cabo San Lucas and did some Deep Sea fishing one day, these are our two fish-i-es. Crazy experience realing one in and taking it up to a restaurant displaying, "You Hook It, We Cook It." It was the freshest fish I have ever had for sure!

Moving & Drinks

My husband and I just signed on a house yesterday; it's been a bit hectic, painting and packing. We love the new area we're moving, Hampden, so if anyone lives nearby, perhaps we could go out on the Avenue and grab some drinks. We're still fairly new to Baltimore and we would love to meet some neighbors, especially that share common interests. Hope this doesn't sound too much like an online match service. Cheers!

Internship (HELP)

I'm looking for an internship working in a printing lab, any ideas? I would love to learn all sides to the design industry, and I feel I'm getting some great design advice from the program. I'd like to see how it all works together in the real world, so if anyone hears of an opening it'd be greatly appreciated! See you all tomorrow in the am and in the pm.

Jackson Stubbs

The mystery behind the madness of the blog URL, Jackson Stubbs is our dog. He's a 75 lb. Lab, mixed with Akita and a little Shar pei. When, my now husband, Jay and I went to pick him out, our friend Lauren, owner of his mama Emma Bean, told us his name was Stubbs. This was because Ms Emma had stepped on the end of his tail as a baby and pinched off the tip, so it's shorter than most. As we couldn't deny his history, we kept it as his middle name, and named him Jackson Stubbs Brinson, after one of the greats Michael Jackson. Jackson does wimper alot and is scared of cats; however, he doesn't quite have the yell down and he doesn't really like little boys.

This was Jackson as a pup.

After class

What an interesting class full of forward thinking and exciting new things to learn. I just couldn't wait to check out this blogger, since I have never had one of my own. It's pretty fun typing and sharing thoughts. There's my first, deep thoughts...by Amanda Brinson. I'll try to spice it up down the road. See everyone in class!
